ABSTRACT
I recall a couple of standard jokes among engineering students from my college days:

I am not sure if these so-called jokes are still popular on college campuses; but, I do know that effective communication is in fact a problem that many engineers (and nonengineers alike) experience at work, particularly those who are recent graduates. In this chapter, I would like to share some thoughts on effective communication skills in the workplace for engineers based on my own experience-though I am sure the marketplace is quite rich with literature on this subject.
