ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on common data infrastructure both legacy and software-defined management topics. There are different focuses and domains of interest when it comes to data infrastructure along with related applications and data center facilities infrastructure management. In addition to the hardware, software, and services such as cloud found in the data infrastructure toolbox, there are different techniques and approaches for using them in various ways. Data infrastructure is the collection of hardware, software, services, people, processes, practices, and policies that combine to support different application workloads. Similar to a traditional factory, information factories are the collection of application workloads and their data supported by a data infrastructure that resides in a data center. Often the broad term data center is used to refer to data infrastructures, while to others it can be the applications and data infrastructure, yet for others it is a facility physical focus.
