This chapter describes development of knowledge concerning the West Indian population’s food exposure to chlordecone and the associated risk assessment since the early 2000s. It is divided into four parts, corresponding to the successive studies carried out by the French Food Safety Agency (AFSSA) until 2010 and by the French Agency for Food, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) since then. The studies include the general population (adults, toddlers, and children) in two French overseas departments: Martinique and Guadeloupe. It also briey describes the management measures set up by the French public administration to take into account the results and recommendations of these successive studies.
