ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This chapter discusses possible cultural inuences on cognitive styles. We review the research connected with the use of the cognitive reection test (CRT), which is sometimes used as a measure of cognitive style (reective versus intuitive). The CRT is based on performance not self-report and is hypothesized to reect an individual’s ability to suppress intuitive (and wrong) answers and to reect upon his or her answer. We were not able to nd any notable cultural differences between the samples-our review highlighted the need for better education and teaching people to reect upon their beliefs and intuitions.
