ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the basic steps and elements for using digital signal processors (DSP). DSPs have superior abilities in terms of automatic control and signal process. DSPs are the processors that can promptly process digital signals converted from analog signals. DSPs can be used to implement various systems for the functioning of various areas, while they face their limitations in terms of clocking frequency, capabilities of noise-isolation, power consumption. Texas Instruments manufactured the first-generation DSP products that can make a modem implement 5,000,000 instructions in 1 s, which was the great breakthrough for real-time signal processing. Texas Instrument provides a convenient method for helping users quickly develop DSPs based on MATLAB/Simulink. C2000 series DSPs are widely used for power electronics applications because C2000 series DSPs have versatile advantages in terms of the wide-band sampling frequency, high-resolution pulse width modulation generators, configurable general-purpose input/output pins, low cost, and simplified programing environment.
