ABSTRACT

The spreading of new scientific journal titles in different areas of knowledge has been a concern for professionals who care for the quality of scientific information. This paper proposes criteria for assessing the management of electronic journals using the intellectual capital (IC) approach. A hybrid mathematical methodology with the integration of the fuzzy Delphi (FDELPHI) and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) methods was used. The FDELPHI was used to raise the critical factors (criteria/subcriteria) (C/Sc) present in the management of electronic scientific journals. The FAHP method was applied to calculate the relative weights of the selected criteria/subcriteria that affect the management. The results indicated that the human capital was appointed as one of the aspects that most (60%) influence the management of a journal. As for the most influential criteria, they are standardization of articles, quality of articles, knowledge of those involved, recognition for the work of the referees and contributors, teamwork, and accuracy of the published information and visibility. Therefore, the expectation is that this work contributes to the improvement of the management of electronic journals and that it provides competitive advantages.
