ABSTRACT

The assessment of potential lethality or injury degree is a process that has many variables. Lethality assessment has many similarities to profiling, and it is not an exact science to absolutely prevent or foretell the future. Lethality assessment, like profiling, is a tool used to provide opportunistic intervention through heightened awareness of the known patterns of factitious disorder by proxy (FDP) victimization escalation. Recognition of FDP abuse patterns and anticipation of likely futuristic contingencies or events may afford a detective initial intuitive response. By anticipating reactions and actions, a reactive policing strategy easily adjusts to an anticipatory investigative criterion.
