ABSTRACT

In previous chapters, we discussed several examples of old ideas being used in new ways. We read about the creation of modern day crowd control tactics in the form of Mobile Field Forces, and how these new tactics borrow heavily from the Roman legions and Greek phalanxes of the past. e innovation of bicycle eld forces is nothing more than a reimplementation of light cavalry forces used to outank and encircle the opponent. Furthermore, the writings of Sun Tzu, Clausewitz, and Machiavelli can be applied as modern day strategies for war, for sports, and for nearly all types of businesses. It is not surprising that the writings of these theorists are still in heavy demand. e core concepts of strategy and tactics are timeless. e only thing that changes is the application of these concepts to the current situation. In essence, the process of innovation is all about “reinventing the wheel.”
