ABSTRACT

Multiple regressions involve predicting values of a dependent variable from the values on a collection of other variables. Performing multiple regressions without a computer program is impractical. Multiple regression analysis is largely impractical without the aid of a computer. SAS's regression procedures are a bit more complicated, but the commands listed on website are easily followed, as are the website commands for Minitab, most of which can be avoided by using the menus. One of the most valuable aspects of regression analysis is its ability to provide good predictions of future observations. A frequent goal in regression analysis is to find the simplest model that provides an adequate explanation of the data. The same variable may be very important in explaining other, rather different, data collected on the same variables. An adequate reduced model should serve well as a prediction equation but only for new cases with predictor variables similar to those in the original data.
