ABSTRACT

Prostate cancer is emerging as one of the leading causes of death worldwide for men. There is increasing evidence to support the notion that dietary habits and lifestyle play a crucial role in prostate cancer pathogenesis. Studies conducted in the past few decades have successfully identifi ed several medicinal plants and have isolated various compounds with their respective molecular mechanisms of action against prostate cancer both in vitro and in vivo. The molecular mechanism action varies among different plant extracts or isolated compounds. Among other things, it can be cell growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest, suppression of angiogenesis and metastasis, inhibition of survival signaling cascade, inducing apoptosis or autophagy or both. In this chapter we have compiled the studies of anticancer activity of various medicinal plants reported against prostate cancer (both in vitro and in vivo) during 2010-2015.
