ABSTRACT

Traditional medicine systems play an important role in meeting global healthcare needs. Systems of medicine which are considered to be Indian in origin and systems of medicine which have come to India from outside and have been assimilated into Indian culture are known as the Indian Systems of Medicine. India has the unique distinction of having six recognized systems of medicine. They are Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Sowa-Rigpa (Amchi), Yoga, and Naturopathy. These now function under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Among these systems, the Siddha system of medicine is the most ancient traditional system.
