ABSTRACT

Criminological theories can be applied to fraud hotlines to inform hotline performance. For instance, a review of the literature suggests that symbolic interactionism could be successfully applied to the phenomenon of crime reporting in the workplace. Research demonstrates that posters are the primary way employees become aware of their employer's fraud hotline. A review of available fraud hotline posters uncovered common themes among fraud hotline posters. Fraud hotline posters were located via general Internet searches. There is a lively debate that surrounds the development of this theory that is worth mentioning. Objects become stimuli and function in the context of acts and become to be defined as relevant in completing the act; they acquire meaning in the course of activity. Symbolic interactionism is rooted in the idea of the symbiotic relationship between the individual and society. The state of bureaucracy was viewed both positively and negatively by scholars.
