ABSTRACT

The organization incorporates sustainability within its system of management to encourage resource productivity, decision making based on factual evidence, and a focus on the customers for its products and services, as well as on the interests of the stakeholders and the community at large. There are eight attributes that organizations can use to evaluate the extent to which sustainability is effective and whether it can be improved: ethical behavior, respect for the rule of law, respect for stakeholder interests, full accountability for opportunities and threats, engagement with stakeholders, embedding sustainability in the organization's governance, including sustainability in decision making and continual improvement and learning. The organization achieves sustained success by consistently addressing the interests of its stakeholders, in a balanced way, over the long term. The chapter presents embedding sustainability into every aspect of an organization involves attention to the items covered in the elements.
