ABSTRACT

Laboratory training is a very critical component of biotechnology education, research, and product development. It is necessary to know basic laboratory techniques in order to shape a career in biotechnology. One of the important aspects of biotechnology laboratory experiments is to understand good laboratory practice. A controlled experiment generally compares the results obtained from an experimental sample against a control sample, which is practically identical to the experimental sample except for the one aspect whose effect is being tested. Observational studies are very much like controlled experiments, except that they lack probabilistic equivalency between groups. The most frequently used routes of administration in laboratory animals are intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous. Euthanasia of animals is expected if animals demonstrate the conditions listed later, whether the animal has been manipulated or not. Surgical operations may be performed on animals under anesthesia to avoid pain to animals.
