ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to describe how the various tools covered earlier are linked to each other and their value in the whole scheme of improving managerial decision-making. It is clear that managers need help with the decision-making process as judged by their performance in dealing with accidents and other difficult situations (see Chapter 7). Management is seen needing help understanding the physical, safety, and economic conditions surrounding approaching critical situations. Examination of a number of the accidents/incidents has indicated the effect of managerial detachment on the effectiveness of plant operations in preparing and responding to accidents/incidents.
