ABSTRACT

Education is at the center of civilization’s progress over the years. Education was exclusively for the elites of society, technological progress was slow, and life for the rest of society was a mean existence. Agriculture was the employment for the majority of people. It was not until the industrial revolution occurred that the new wealth generated spread to the lower classes, and along with this, persons could be involved in the intellectual activities of teaching and learning, because more money and time were available. This whole process caused industries to grow, and along with growth there was the need for trained persons to fill new job categories. This expansion process has continued and manual tasks have given way to more intellect-driven jobs, and with this more universities were started and technology has expanded exponentially.
