Whole Medical Systems
“Whole medical system” refers to a complete approach to diagnosis and practice of healthcare. Some examples of whole medical systems include traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, and Ayurveda. These systems reflect traditional and customary medical procedures practiced in various cultures around the world. A selection of the better-studied whole medical systems will be covered here, including those with some supporting evidence in pediatrics, although in many cases evidence for the use of many traditional whole medical systems remains relatively scant in the U.S. (Romeyke and Stummer 2015; Edwards et al. 2013).
