Neurodevelopmental Disorders: ADHD and Autism
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is considered one the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children and was one of the first psychiatric diagnoses to be labeled and treated in children. Use of stimulant medication in children was introduced in 1937. ADHD persists into adulthood in an estimated 50% of individuals (Goldman et al. 1998).
