Integrative Intake

The art of incorporating integrative medicine into the clinical visit requires a deliberate shift on the part of the practitioner. This entails broadening one’s perspective, viewing the patient through a multifaceted lens, and recognizing the important connections between seemingly unrelated factors. Few conventional clinicians are trained to approach patients in this manner, which leverages both intuition and refined listening skills. Although initially the time investment needed for an expanded intake approach may seem daunting, when well practiced it can facilitate identification of hidden stressors, reveal unhealthy patterns, and may speed accurate diagnosis.
