ABSTRACT

Today's interior components trend toward a dependence on the World of Plastics. Once the interior walls and ceilings have been installed and finished, the cabinets, countertops, flooring, and trim are installed. Today, the most commonly encountered cabinets are wood, plastic laminate/other synthetics, stainless steel, and combinations thereof. Butcher block countertops are single species or multiple species solid wood that has been joined and glued. Floor covering materials to be discussed herein are natural stone, wood, ceramic/porcelain tiles, carpeting, and resilient flooring. Synthetic granite/marble, also referred to as engineered stone, quartz surfacing, countertop is acrylic solid surface composite with crushed quartz. With the exception of wool, most carpet face fibers are comprised of polymers, and the most commonly encountered polymer fiber carpet materials are olefin polypropylene, acrylic, and polyester. Terrazzo is composite material composed of chips and fine aggregates of granite, marble, quartz, glass, and/or other colorful chips and pieces. Trim, molding, and more are the finishing touches, the final destination.
