ABSTRACT

This chapter includes a number of ready-to-use tables to be filled with typical machine parameters, which the operator/engineer can use to type in all the relevant operating ranges, including alarm and trip values, so that they are handy during a troubleshooting activity. In their many years of experience, the authors have encountered numerous occasions when values of critical parameters that were required during a troubleshooting activity were not readily available, and required spending valuable time poring over many documents to find them, if at all. In later years, with the increasing installation of computerized acquisition and control units at the control room, many of these variables can be found “buried” in the system. Nevertheless, often the operator on duty is not conversant with the fine details of mining data in these computer files. So, it is handy to have all the important variables tabulated where they are readily accessible when needed in a hurry. In a station with several generators, each unit has a set of tables prepared and kept in an accessible place, preferably in the control room, either accessible on a screen, or as a hardcopy, or both.
