ABSTRACT

Diabetes exerts immense economic burden, including the provision of blood sugar testing and monitoring kits, high costs of antidiabetic drugs, the expenses incurred to purchase special diets and preventive medicines, and the treatment of complications arising from diabetes. Some of those affected may be unable to work and support their families. The economic cost of diabetes globally was estimated at $755 billion in 2015, with countries spending up to 20% of their total health expenditure on diabetes.
