ABSTRACT

As per the title of this book, The Science of Beach Lifeguarding, we have attempted to ensure that what is presented is underpinned by a scientific evidence base wherever possible. This evidence base is not always complete and sometimes we have had to make a judgement on what to include and what to leave out. Since the time this book was conceived and many of the chapters written, naturally more research has been conducted, and so this final chapter seeks to bring the reader up to date with important topics that didn’t make this edition, and to suggest further research that is required to underpin many aspects of the practice of beach lifeguarding that have hitherto not been addressed.
