ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights some poisoning situations that typically involve multiple victims. Bacterial foodborne agents are the leading cause of food poisoning outbreaks. The most important factors contributing to these poisonings are the contamination of raw foods, inadequate cooking, and improper food storage temperatures. Viral food poisoning is usually related to eating raw fish or food contaminated by infected food-handling personnel. Domestic and foreign terrorist groups have an enormous number of toxic substances and delivery methods to choose from for attacks on civilians and structural targets. Toxicants are relatively easy to obtain, or they can be synthesized from materials commonly utilized for legitimate industrial purposes. The motivation for multiple suicide incidents is often obscure, especially when they involve younger individuals. The lengthy investigation culminated with the arrest of the cult senior leaders who were charged with multiple crimes that included poisoning, providing false information, immigration violations, attempted murder, product tampering, and wire tapping.
