ABSTRACT

Generally speaking, a supercomputer is a computer which is one of the fastest computers of its time. Usually, the computer's performance is measured in Floating Point Operations Per Second (FLOPS) when running a certain benchmark program. Since 1993, the TOP500 list [1] ranks the top 500 supercomputers worldwide according to their maximal performance achieved when running the LINPACK benchmark.1 As of November 2016, the fastest supercomputer in the world is the Sunway TaihuLight at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, China. Its maximal performance is at 93 Peta FLOPS, that is, 93 × 1015 FLOPS.
