ABSTRACT

Drugs and nutrients share an intricate relationship in human health. Drug therapy and dietary interventions often have a complementary effect on disease prevention and therapy (Chan, 2013). In many disease states, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and metabolic disorders, dietary interventions play a key role in the overall therapeutic strategy. The treatment effect is augmented by the addition of pharmacotherapy. However, in some other cases, pharmacotherapy can have a negative impact on nutrient homeostasis.
