ABSTRACT

The zone where debris is carried within the body of a glacier, without the particles coming into contact with the bed. Debris is derived from rockfall and buried in the accumulation area, and is little modified during englacial flow (Figure Z.1). The zones of suspension and traction within a valley glacier, illustrated by a schematic longitudinal cross-section. Particle paths through the glacier are shown. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315373157/95d5ad9e-a71d-4f11-a609-2c025b95638b/content/figz_1.jpg"/>
