ABSTRACT

The most work done to standardize Lean certification has been between the Association of Manufacturing Excellence (AME) and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) who offer Lean certification levels such as bronze, silver, and gold. American Society for Quality and Shingo Prize organizations have also standardized with AME and SME on the program. Many universities have expanded their curriculums to include Lean and there are many other organizations that offer Lean certification online for as little as $99. In this chapter, the authors explain the importance of certification programs developed by AME/SME and the various university courses. They outline several levels of Lean practitioner (LP). The LP is essentially working to develop a problem-solving culture and create an organization of LPs.
