ABSTRACT

R values were estimated, as part of a case study, for 10 bridges from Florida, Indiana, and New York using an abstract model and a detailed model to decide appropriate courses of action. The model was validated using a holistic evaluation method. The bridge engineers holistically evaluated each bridge in the 10-bridge case study on a scale from 0.00 to 1.00, using their experience, knowledge of the individual bridges, and input from inspection teams to develop their own diagnoses and courses of action. These decisions were compared to the recommendations rendered by the model and found to be in good agreement.
