ABSTRACT

Changes in technology have created new ways of working that were previously not possible. This has contributed to people choosing to work in places other than at their desk and for the commercial occupancy of buildings to drop to sometimes less than 50%. This, and research about the impact of sedentary work tasks on health, are drawing attention to cost savings achieved by changing the design of the workplaces and the way work is done. Research indicates that the changes can enhance health and well-being; however, there are some complex elements to consider before a successful outcome is achieved (Chau et al. 2013).
