ABSTRACT

Hydroprocessing (covers the process terms “hydrotreating” and “hydrocracking”) is a refining technology in which a feedstock is treated with hydrogen at temperature and under pressure that can affect the product slate in refineries by strategic placement (Figure 10.1). In fact, the use of hydrogen in thermal processes is perhaps the single most significant advance in refining technology during the twentieth century (Scherzer and Gruia, 1996; Dolbear, 1998).
