ABSTRACT
Residual life expectancy is the expected number of years of life remaining at
a given age. Given a multi-state survival model, total residual life expectancy
can be distinguished from residual life expectancy in a specific state. State-
specific life expectancies are of importance in ageing research, where not only
longevity is of interest but also whether individuals spent their old age in good
health.
