ABSTRACT

The practitioner in forensic gait analysis would be expected to have such knowledge, understanding and experience of prior to embarking upon forensic gait analysis casework. The understanding of abnormal gait has the pre-requisite of being able to comprehend normal gait. Forensic gait analysis was created and evolved out of the knowledge, skills and experience of the author long deployed in podiatry practice with gait analysis. The process performed for forensic gait analysis utilises class level characteristics and recognising that some gait styles or features of gait are more distinctive than others. Forensic gait analysis utilises observational gait analysis with class level characteristics, recognising that some gait styles or features of gait are more distinctive than others. Forensic gait analysis is part of a broad sphere of disciplines and techniques in forensic science which have utility in legal matters.
