ABSTRACT

The evidence to date shows that the foot has a role to play in estimating height/stature of unknowns and that care is needed when deriving stature from any measurement. Various lower limb areas have been utilised for comparison and estimations of height. G. Zeybek et al. used the measurements of foot length, foot breadth, the navicular bone and malleoli height to correlate with stature. H. Ozden et al. used foot and shoe dimensions to determine stature and sex of the participants, but again little concrete information is given as to how the measurements were obtained. Linear and curvilinear regression equations were formulated and the data appeared to include males and females and both feet, compared to the previous study which included only the left foot of both genders. T. Krishan found the highest correlations between stature and foot dimensions in males was foot length, whilst it was foot breadth for females.
