ABSTRACT

Depleting natural resources and climate change have made sustainable development a major challenge for many of those involved in urban planning, in particular construction companies and local authorities (Houdet, 2008; Natureparif, 2011; Natureparif, 2012). At present, biodiversity is not a priority component of urban planning, partly because those involved lack the necessary knowledge, and partly due to a dearth of tools that are easy to understand and use by non-specialists in biodiversity (Henry & Frascaria-Lacoste, submitted). New, simpler, decision-aid tools need to be developed so that professionals can take sustainable development issues into account in their practices.
