ABSTRACT

In modern protective engineering approaches, additionally to the effective protection of human life and material assets, also socio-economic aspects, environmental impacts and potential should be considered for a holistic planning process. The research project E-Protect aims at developing Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models for the special field of alpine protective structures. Both, the Cumulative Energy Demand (CED) and the Global Warming Potential (GWP) should be considered in an Environmental LCA. These innovative Environmental LCA models will provide a new planning and decision support tool for responsible planners, by pointing out the environmental impact over the entire lifecycle.
