ABSTRACT

Information on road surface condition is essential for effective pavement management. RWS and TNO are collaborating in several research & development projects to fully automate the survey processes of raveling, cracking and other types of road surface deterioration on porous asphalt. The developed system is capable of determining the pavement type, the amount of raveling and the amount and type of surface cracks. This information is used to automatically determine the expected remaining service life of each 100 meter road section and is input for the Pavement Management System of RWS. All main roads in the Netherlands are measured using the developed system.
