ABSTRACT

The Foundation Programme and MRCP(UK) Part 1 syllabus specify what is required in terms of competencies, skills and knowledge from junior physicians in core medical training in respiratory medicine. Cardiac pain tends to be heaviness, band-like, gripping and a dull ache. Non-cardiac pain tends to be a dull ache, sharp, shooting and precipitated by specific body motion. A pneumothorax is termed primary if there is no underlying disease and secondary if there is. The 2009 British Thoracic Society guidelines marked a subtle change in the approach to diagnosing asthma. It suggested dividing patients into a high, intermediate and low probability of having asthma based on presence or absence of typical symptoms. Bronchiectasis describes a permanent dilatation of airways secondary to chronic infection or inflammation. Kartagener's syndrome was first described in 1933 and most frequently occurs in examinations due to its association with dextrocardia.
