ABSTRACT
Aminoglycosides, such as gentamycin, neomycin and amikacin, are a class of bactericidal antibiotics, most effective against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria. They prevent bacterial protein synthesis by binding to bacterial ribosomes, which interferes with RNA binding and causes codon misreading.
