ABSTRACT
The rationale for developing guidelines is to achieve better health out comes for patients or greater value for money than would have been achieved in the absence of guidelines. Therefore the methods of guideline development should ensure that treating patients according to the guide lines will achieve the outcomes that are desired. Three important issues underpin the development of valid and useable guidelines.
