ABSTRACT
This is a relatively new concept to many GPs and initially it can be difficult to understand how income for the practice can be generated. It is important to limit the time you spend on doing things that you feel are not of value to you or your patient. You have a contractual requirement for those between 16 and 75 that you have not seen in the previous 3 years. It is important therefore to make sure that you have a reliable method to record consultations. You must also be able to find out who has and who has not had a recorded consultation in the previous 1095 days. You must then invite the patient to come for an examination. How you phrase the letter or telephone call is up to you. The invitation must be recorded. If they do not come to see you, you are required to invite them again in a year’s time.
