ABSTRACT
Introduction The purpose of this chapter is to show how various systems-based approaches can be harnessed in the development and implementation of care pathways. A summary of some of the theory behind the
approaches is provided and by way of several case studies the benefits are highlighted. Additional material on relevant systems theory and methods is provided on the CD accompanying this book, while many of the technical terms are defined in the glossary.
