In his [David Widgery's] dream of dreams for bringing about social change he would have a Tony Cliff or Tony Benn-like figure speaking whilst Miles Davis or Bob Marley played in between speeches. Dave would be smoking a joint whilst the bloke next to him would say, 'Hey doc, I've got a bad leg. You couldn't help me could you?' He was a marriage of so many different things and elements. Very few people that you know would have tried to haul together so many different elements in one life.'14
