ABSTRACT

Good organisation and preparation are key to obtaining maximum benefit from any educational activity. This chapter covers practical tips that teachers will want to take into account when organising a meeting of any size, or a course. Teachers cannot fail to organise a successful meeting or conference if they choose a subject that addresses people's needs, at a price they can afford, at a convenient time in an accessible location. To minimise the risk of things going wrong, teachers should choose a central location to which people can easily travel. If it is a regional or national event, teacher should ensure proximity to a major train station and easy access to motorways. Teachers should choose an appropriate mix of lectures, small group work and refreshment breaks, depending on the learning objectives for the meeting, the topic, the type of delegates, their likely attention span and the expertise of the speakers.
