ABSTRACT

Introduction Many countries in the world are in a process of great historical change. The changes have been proposed to be larger than those of the industrial revolution. Information and communication technology (ICT) plays a fundamental role in these changes. The changes in society are many, and many sectors are changed by the technology. Some sectors have already seen great organizational changes, e.g. the bank sector. Other sectors are in the early stages of the changes the future may bring. The health sector is one example. An essential trait of the industrial revolution was the mass production of goods. In post-industrial society, the knowledge and information society, this is replaced by production of knowledge, information and services.1
