ABSTRACT

The area of safe prescribing and drug errors is one of particular interest and rapidly growing importance. Many of the drugs used in cardiology have interactions with each other, and there are specific contraindications in certain patient groups. However, these drugs can potentially be of great benefit, although at the cost of being extremely dangerous if they are incorrectly prescribed. We shall not discuss the pharmacology of these drugs, but will focus on the various aspects of safe prescribing and their major implications. In the event of any drug queries, the British National Formulary should always be consulted, and this list should not act as a substitute for that resource.
