Disparities refer to differences in health status and differences in access to healthcare services across subgroups within a population. Disparities in healthcare systems have long been a central concern of policymakers around the world (Kunst and Mackenbach, 1999; WHO, 2000; Morrisson, 2002; Smedley, et 2003).
