ABSTRACT

Guidelines on best practice for the prevention of cross-infection between patients are available from a variety of organisations. For example, the British Dental Association has produced an advice sheet on the subject jointly with the Department of Health. Poor mental health and high stress levels have been reported in staff working in general practice. Around 65% of general practitioners felt that stress had caused mistakes in their practices. If Dental Practitioners have a finite budget to spend, it is inescapable that expenditure in one area of thier practice will mean less in another. Many team members are reluctant to become involved in any financial decision making. Giving people control over their own small budgets and making them aware of the relative costs of equipment and materials can be useful. It gives people the information that they need in order to take control of how they use supplies, treatments or technologies.
