ABSTRACT

There was no doubt about the purpose of imprisonment in my case. My crimes had been so serious that there had been no alternative but that I should be separated from society for a long time. When he sentenced me, the judge who presided over my trial made no comments regarding how he expected me to spend my time in prison. Neither did he comment on what society would be expecting of me during my incarceration. His job was simply to pass sentence. I received mandatory life.
