ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes the techniques of health economics and its role in achieving efficiency under conditions of scarcity. It examines the analytical techniques available to the health economist and their meanings and addresses practically the types of data and information available in healthcare at a national, secondary and primary care level. The book considers healthcare benefits and resources separately. It focuses on using and interpreting existing data and information sources in order to address issues from the perspective of health economics. The book suggests ways in which to supplement the existing data where appropriate using actual data on costs and benefits. It details students of health economics or health services research at the postgraduate level. The book aims at anyone who is involved with the delivery or commissioning of healthcare.
